What Are Circles & Ceremonies?
Ceremonies and circles are a welcoming opportunity to sit in circle for a particular event, topic or to sit with ceremonial cacao. A chance to be held by your community, discuss what is present, go deeper in your practice and learn more about the miraculous benefits of yoga.
A ceremony is a meeting of a group with a single collective intention or a guided journey using cacao, a ceremony would have a clear energetic arc.
A circle is not so different to a ceremony, in a circle we are well seated to witness each other, to learn, to practice, to share and be held in community care. Like the same as any yoga or meditation practice but we acknowledge the presence of each other in a circle. Which is powerful!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
They are connected but they serve slightly different purposes. A ceremony is a guided ritual experience with a clear energetic arc. There is intention setting, grounding, embodied practice, devotional elements like chant or prayer, and a defined beginning and closing. It’s about marking something meaningful, connecting with land, body, breath and spirit, and allowing emotional or energetic shifts to move through in a supported way.
A circle is more focused on community connection and being witnessed. In circle we sit as equals, share honestly, listen deeply, and experience the medicine of being seen without fixing or judging. Both are powerful: ceremony reconnects you to meaning and embodiment, while circle reconnects you to belonging, your voice and community care. Many gatherings beautifully weave both, creating a space that feels emotionally safe, spiritually grounded and deeply human.
-
No experience is needed at all. These circles are created for real humans, not for “spiritual experts.” You will be guided gently and clearly, and you’re always free to engage in the way that feels right for your body and nervous system. Many people come to their very first ceremony here, and they often discover that their intuition already knows how to be in this kind of space. Ceremony isn’t something to perform or “get right.” It is something ancient inside you that remembers how to be here.
-
Not unless you want to. Sharing circles are invitational rather than pressured. You are never required to speak, expose vulnerability, or participate beyond what feels genuine and safe in your body. Many people simply listen and receive, and that is a complete and powerful experience in itself. Agency, consent and emotional safety are at the heart of how I facilitate.

Ceremonial cacao is pure, whole-bean cacao prepared intentionally as a warm, nourishing drink. It’s very different from commercial chocolate, which is usually highly processed and full of sugar. Cacao is not a psychedelic and it is not a recreational “drug.” It does contain natural compounds like theobromine that gently stimulate circulation, enhance mood, and support emotional openness without altering perception or consciousness. Most people experience cacao as heart-softening, grounding, and soothing rather than overwhelming. In ceremony we work with cacao as a plant ally; something to be honoured, approached with intention, and shared with care, especially for people who are pregnant, highly sensitive, on medication, or have cardiovascular conditions, so that the experience always feels safe, conscious and deeply supportive.
-
For most people, a cacao ceremony is very safe and deeply supportive. We work with ceremonial-grade cacao gently and intentionally, and we always honour your body rather than trying to create a specific emotional outcome. If you’re pregnant, have cardiovascular conditions, high blood pressure, are taking SSRIs, or know you’re highly caffeine-sensitive, I’ll guide you personally and adjust your dose or offer an alternative so you still feel fully included. Nothing is ever forced. You are always in choice, and your nervous system, wellbeing and sense of safety come first.
-
No, this is not religious and there is no dogma here. These ceremonies honour land, lineage, body, breath, spirit and connection in a way that is inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of belief system. There may be prayer, song, chant and devotion, but this devotion is about love, reverence, aliveness and being fully human, not about rules or obedience. You get to define your own spiritual language here, or simply enjoy the grounded community experience.
-
Absolutely. Many people come alone, and I hold the room in a way that helps you feel included, seen and safe without being put on the spot. These spaces often attract people who are tender-hearted, thoughtful, curious, healing, rebuilding or reconnecting with themselves, which means you’re likely to be surrounded by kind, like-minded humans. Most people leave feeling less alone than when they arrived, and many new friendships begin in circle.
-
Ceremony can gently unlock emotion, softness, relief, release or clarity… and all of that is welcome. If emotion arises, it means your nervous system feels safe enough to soften, which is a beautiful thing. Spaces are held with immense care, grounding, trauma awareness and emotional intelligence so nothing is rushed or amplified. You are supported, and you always have autonomy. You can step out, breathe, sit quietly, or simply be held, whatever feels right.
-
No. Ceremony can feel deeply therapeutic, nurturing and emotionally supportive, but it is not psychotherapy or a substitute for medical or mental-health care. It’s a grounded community space rooted in yoga lineage, tantra, nervous-system understanding, devotional practice and land-based awareness. If you are in clinical treatment, ceremony can beautifully complement your healing journey, but it does not replace professional care. If you’re unsure, we can talk and make sure you feel safe and supported.

Ceremonies are held at The Shala in East Vancouver: 4108 Victoria Drive, Vancouver, BC, Canada.
It is a warm, intimate, land-rooted studio with a devotional feel rather than a commercial “class space.” You enter through the Blue Door, a threshold into quiet, depth, reverence and community connection.
-
Wear comfortable, warm clothing that allows you to move and rest easily. Bring a journal, water bottle, and anything comforting such as a shawl, blanket or personal ritual item if that feels supportive. Everything else will be provided for you. Simply come as you are, and your body will do the rest.
-
Beginners are completely welcome. Many attendees are new to yoga, tantra or ceremony. Everything is guided with clarity, gentleness and respect. If you have experience, you’ll find depth here. If you’re new, you’ll find grounding, safety and guidance that meets you exactly where you are.
